US Norovirus cases associated with Canadian Oysters

TUESDAY, April 5, 2022 (HealthDay News) – The United States and Canada are investigating a norovirus infection that has been transmitted to eyeballs from Canada.

Restaurants and retailers should not serve or sell these contaminated eye drops, harvested in the southern and central regions of Baynes Sound, British Columbia, Canada, the U.S. said. Food and Drug Administration.

The oysters have been advertised in 13 states, but others may have been available through further distribution in the United States, according to the FDA.

The states that have confirmed the availability of oysters are California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, Oregon, Texas and Washington.

The FDA and states conducted what became known as a “trace forward investigation” to determine where the eyelashes were distributed and remove them from the food supply.

Although normal food looks, smells and tastes good, it can cause nausea, vomiting, nausea, stomach ache, fever, body aches and pains within 12 to 48 hours after eating.

Most people get better within one to three days. Children under 5 years of age, the elderly, and people with immune systems are more likely to have serious illnesses.

Symptoms can lead to dehydration, especially in children, the elderly and people with other diseases.

The FDA says it is important to call your health care provider if you or your child becomes dehydrated. Symptoms of dehydration include decreased urination, dry mouth and neck, and nausea. Dry children may have few or no tears and may be sleepy or comfortable.

The affected collection sites in Baynes Sound are # 1407063, # 1411206, # 278737 in BC 14-8, and # 1400036, in BC 14-15. “Baynes Sound” will be displayed on product labels of “14-8” or / or “DEEP BAY,” or “14-15.”

The FDA said:

  • Restaurants and customers are required to discard and return to the advertiser the products included in the memo.
  • Those who process and store cleanable products should be aware of contamination of food processing equipment. Work tables should be cleaned and sanitized, and hands washed with warm water.
  • Customers who have purchased the bulk product must clean and sanitize the containers used to hold the product.
  • Consumers should not eat oysters from listed areas and throw away products they find. If they are sick, they should talk to their health care provider.

It is important to wash hands, dishes and skin with warm water, soap before and after handling food, according to the FDA. It is now very important to clean the cutters or food preparation plates that have been mixed with the contaminated sticks.

Noroviruses are resistant to heat and can survive temperatures up to 145 degrees.

Other ways to prevent foodborne illness include not preparing food for others when you are sick; washing fruits and vegetables before preparing and eating them; always cook meat and fish; disinfecting contaminants; and to wash unclean clothes.
