(CNN) — Two Air France pilots got into an inflight dispute and exchanged “inappropriate behavior” while in the cockpit of an A320 en route from Geneva to Paris, the airline confirmed on Monday.
The spat, which took place in June 2022, led to the dismissal of two pilots, who have not been named by Air France.
“The incident was resolved quickly without affecting the operation or safety of the flight, which is still ongoing,” said an airline spokesperson.
“The pilots involved in the flight are being released and are awaiting a management decision regarding the outcome/handling of the incident.
Although this incident took place two months ago, it became public due to a story last week in the Geneva Tribune newspaper in French, saying that there are many structural problems with Air France.
CNN has not confirmed any of the new allegations.
The Bureau of Inquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA), the French government agency in charge of the aviation industry, said it “issued a safety statement regarding the implementation of the manufacturer processes.”
The BEA report said the pilots did not follow fuel leak procedures that require the affected engine to be shut down to reduce the risk of a fire, resulting in “significantly reducing the safety margin of flight” , the fire was prevented in time.”
This is not an isolated case, says BEA. “Through a number of recent studies,” they found that “the organizations involved, for various reasons, willingly or not, did not perform certain procedures in an appropriate manner,” i said the company in the same report.
The Boeing 777 flight that took off from New York City, landed safely and no passengers or crew were injured. Air France said its pilots responded appropriately to the situation by circling and attempting to land twice.
Air France, founded in 1933, is the country’s national flag carrier.
