(CNN) — Floating homes, living and smart home technology are not things that go hand in hand.

But Ocean Builders, a Panama-based company that specializes in innovative marine technology, has unveiled a fleet of “revolutionary living pods” that combine all three.

Described as “world-class restoration buildings,” the pods, ranging in price from $295,000 to $1.5 million, are currently being built at the Linton Bay Marina on Panama’s north coast.

Designed by Dutch architect Koen Olthuis and his team at Waterstudio, the three models are available with the flagship model SeaPod, built for aquatic life, the GreenPod, designed for use in the country, and the EcoPod, an ecological and economic option.

The Seapod was conceived by Rüdiger Koch, head of engineering at Ocean Builders, together with CEO Grant Romundt, in order to solve the lack of space in popular coastal areas.

The loft offers 833 square feet (73 square meters) of living space, including a master bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom, spread over three and a half.

With room for two people, the unit uses over 1,688 cubic feet of air-filled steel tubing to float 7.5 feet (2.2 meters) above the waves, and has 575 square feet of windows. panoramic and 360-degree ocean views.

Romundt believes that the design will balance the concepts of home and travel, and allow residents to live on the water without having to work when it comes to the “comforts of the new life.”

“Usually when you live on the water, it’s on a boat, a living situation that most people don’t accept,” Romundt told CNN Travel.

“So we designed a home that floats on the water to give you an experience of living on land, but much more.”

The pods should be equipped with the latest technology, with customized applications to match the design and function to suit the contents.

Now, special “smart bracelets” are used by residents that allow them to open doors and change their music with a wave of the hand.

“In case [technology company] Apple has built a house, I think you will end up with the SeaPod, or the GreenPod, or the EcoPod,” said Romundt. “A lot of technology is built into buildings.

“I want him to think that, instead of having a phone as a digital assistant, your home actually becomes your assistant, and you can use it to improve your life.”

The pods will initially be located near the Linton Bay Marina. However, the Ocean Builders team hopes to distribute them globally once they believe the technology can be supported elsewhere.

A longtime advocate of ocean living, Romundt previously lived on a houseboat in Toronto, and says it’s a lifestyle that’s hard to match.

“It’s just magical to be able to wake up in the morning, go downstairs, jump on the paddle and go paddle,” he said.

“It’s so peaceful and beautiful. Most people spend the whole year dreaming of their two-week vacation where they can go to a cool island, relax, unwind, regenerate and return to themselves.

“So why not stay like that year-round? It’s so easy to be able to work remotely now.”

Although those who choose to live in one of these private areas should have a sense of adventure, and enjoy the water, Romundt says that the company does not need to be the customer of the thinking.

In fact, he is confident that most people who see the Seapod for a few minutes will only jump at the chance to find one.

“When I lived on my houseboat in Toronto, everyone who came to visit loved it,” he said.

“So all I have to do is get people to step on the Seapod for five minutes.

But what about tasks like buying groceries, and traveling back and forth from the pod to the mainland?

According to Romundt, aerial delivery drones should be used to deliver things like food and medicine, as well as “small everyday things.”

For bulk transportation, there is a separate private vessel, which also acts as a marine discharge vessel, to collect garbage and debris in order to keep the surroundings clean.

Residents and visitors can be transported to the SeaPod via motorboats, jet skis, local watercraft, and/or their boats or ships.

And even though they’re known to fit those with a very small driveway, there’s 1,250 square feet of storage space inside.

With a focus on sustainability, the pods are designed “to benefit the surrounding environment” and provide “a natural environment for marine life to live and thrive.”

“We try to build and design a good building for the environment, and not to damage the environment,” explained Romundt.

“And we’re always trying to innovate and find ways to do that better.

The first completed pods will be displayed online at the end of September, and customers will be able to go and check them out for themselves soon after.

“People have been trying to buy them for years,” Romundt said, explaining that the Ocean Builders company decided not to take inventory until customers could actually see the pods. in real life.

“This is new. And there’s a lot of stuff that people put money into that can’t really work.

“We didn’t want to take stock until people got down and set foot on a pod. So I was happy with the result at that point.”

“This is a big job. I wanted to do it two years ago.

The Seapods are among a number of new floating home concepts set to launch in the coming years, along with the Floating Seahorse, a development by Kleindienst Group that has 131 floating villas that will be part of a $5 billion mega-resort The Heart of European Project in The World artificial archipelago on the coast of Dubai.
Those who grab one of the 100 Ocean Builders pods will be able to move in at the end of 2023, providing everything goes to plan.

Production begins on 1,000 pods by 2024.
