Editor – Ticket Monthly is a CNN travel series that explores some of the most exciting topics in the travel world. In June, we take to the skies to check out the latest in aircraft, with people working to change the way we fly.
Hamburg (CNN) – A design for “looking” aircraft and an office concept that can give each car their own ice box is among the winners of this year’s Crystal Cabin Awards.
The prestigious aircraft awards, showcasing innovation and innovation in aircraft, were presented at a joint event at the 2022 Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) in Hamburg, Germany.
Speaking to CNN Travel on the gifts, Crystal Cabin Award Association president Lukas Kaestner told a group of professionals who spent a day questioning each shipment before it arrived. in their decision. Judges debated the reasoning and reasoning of the opinions, and some also considered opinions from planes and passengers.
Not all of the latest products are on the market, or nearby, Kaestner said. It’s just a lot of ideas. But “the fundamental question of most jury decisions,” he explains, is, “Did it have the right time to fly?”
Speaking to CNN Travel earlier on AIX, Teague’s team explained that the idea behind the idea was to “open up more space” in the office, by adding accessories. all in a way about the side and the road.
The idea began, the Teague company said, when airline developers were talking about beer at AIX three years ago. Designers and engineers knew they all faced the same problem – how to release air in airports without losing seats in the process. They begin to dream of an outcome.
Meanwhile, Collins Aerospace brought the car’s ice rocket, called the SpaceChiller, to the gift in the Passenger Comfort section. Crystal Cabin jurors were shocked by Collins’ claim that the ice box uses half the power of standard airplane ice pack designs. The ability to be lifted or lowered by the ice box, to allow less power to be placed in the arm of a car, was a pull for judges.
Announce the new work
The Crystal Cabin Awards often see one of its most recent exhibitions on the University campus, where the next generation of aircraft designers give their ideas on the future of aviation.
Kaestner told CNN Travel it will be interesting to see where the first voters end up in this area.
This year’s winner was Ken Kirtland, from the Georgia Institute of Technology, who dreamed of an electric plane called Portal, that would use unused spacecraft and fly at low altitudes.
With pilots screaming for more resilience options, and the industry working hard to address the realities of their carbon footprint, Kirtland has caught the attention of Crystal Cabin judges. .
Someone inside the Portal also played into Kirtland’s victory – the idea was to have the garage have comfortable seats enclosed around the building, with passengers enjoying the views of the sky.
For Kaestner, the University’s division summed up what was going on at the Crystal Cabin Awards.
“We want to inspire innovation and create and stimulate dialogue about travel information,” he said.
