A study led by Drs. Xiao-Ming Jiang and Prof. Guo-Cong Guo (Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter, Chinese Academy of Science) has developed a new research paradigm for economic studies based on the concept of “functional planning”.

The structure is defined as the critical microstructure components (e.g., constituent components and building blocks) that play an important role in the performance of certain economic functions. These parts cannot be replaced with other building blocks without loss or significant restriction of proper operation.
