Time to choose my country 172 – Oman! After visiting the beautiful city of Muscat, we headed to Sur where we stayed for 3 days and 2 nights. And in this city, our home Sur Plaza Hotel.
Located about 220 kilometers from the capital, Muscat, Sur is known for its important naval bases in the future of the city’s sea season. Because of its location, Sur became an important city for sailors and traders, mostly from East Africa and India. That is why it is not surprising to see large wooden canoes in this city!
Immediately after our day tour of Muscat and the desert, we headed straight to Sur to spend our 3 days and 2 nights while also looking for nearby attractions. When we arrived at the Hotel Sur Plaza, Mr. Wright said. Mahesh and his team welcomed us so well! We felt at home and they gave us gifts and amazing things! More about Sur and Sur Plaza Hotel below!
Things to do in Sur, Oman
1. Wadi Shab
If you like walking, this is a must! Wadi Shab is a very interesting country! You will climb a little hill in the middle of the board over rocks and boulders until you stand in front of a calm, calm lake. It is a good idea to wear comfortable shoes because the rocks can be very rough. If you’ve ever seen the dry land of Oman before, it’s like a story.
2. Ras Al Jinz Honu is captured
It’s an amazing place but with a lot of tourists. In the evening, you can watch the eggs lay, and in the morning, the baby turtles digging and skinning. Unfortunately, there is nothing worth seeing up close.
3. Maritime Museum Sur
This spacious museum is a must visit. It offers better shooting times, especially the dhow. After that, you can visit the nearest shipyard which we highly recommend so you can watch the construction of the equipment or the return of the dhows.
4. Visit the Castles
One of the best things to do in Sur is to visit its famous ancient monuments – the castles! There you will learn more about this ancient Omani city and its modern history.
- Bilad Sur City – This renovated fort was on the Sur side, where some rooms were prepared so that it could be visited. It is only about 200 years old and is thought to have protected invading families from the mountains / desert.
- Castle of Ras al Hadd – Just outside Sur, the restored castle in the style of an Ottoman fort is a must -visit. While there isn’t much to see in the small, accessible spaces, the guides there manage with their own unique style and local stories.
- Al Sinaisilah Castle – Al Sinaisilah Castle in central Sur is a well -restored and well -maintained castle. The small rooms available are furnished and lovingly decorated. Parking spaces, a bathroom, and parking spaces are available online.
Where to stay in Sur, Oman
We visited many places in Muscat before our trip to Sur. Sur Plaza Hotel, managed by Mr. Mahesh and his team welcomed us with lots of gifts and surprises. We were devastated! Haha!
At Sur Plaza Hotel, our room was upgraded to a King Executive room which was very comfortable! It is equipped with a satellite TV and free Wi-Fi. The new make -up will completely relax the eyes. Do you sleep? Alas, I think I don’t want to leave bed again, but I won’t lose time to watch Oman, so it’s a tough decision! Haha! For those on a tight budget, the Sur Plaza Hotel is a classic room.
Restaurants at Sur Plaza Hotel
This is one of the main reasons it is hard to leave Sur Plaza Hotel, the restaurants! There are 2 great restaurants in the hotel – Oyster Restaurant and Al Najoom on the Pool side.
This restaurant overlooks the lake with spectacular mountain views and is located in the lobby area of the hotel. With the dishes they provide, we are almost like a food trip around the world! Yeah, they don’t just give a shit, that’s what I thought haha !. They have traditional Omani / Arabic, Continental, Chinese / Oriental, and Asian dishes in buffet and a la carte mode. These delicious foods are enough to make me happy!
Breakfast – 6:00 am to 10:00 am
Lunch – 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
Dinner – 7.00 pm to 11.00 pm
Al Najoom on the Pool side
Al Najoom on the Pool side means, “Stars on the Pool side”. In its own name, it is in the pond. The good thing here is that you can enjoy the hospitality of Omani and the beautiful sights of Sur due to its spacious location.
Another reason you should spend your days at Sur Plaza Hotel is because of the tours they offer. Guests can enjoy a Dhow Cruise on the natural beach of Ras Al Hadd. You can take an hour cruise exploring the places of interest in Sur, Oman.
Alas! Thatʻs not enough, while sailing, you can have lunch or dinner on board. If you like fishing, then you can try that! The Dhow is fully stocked so I’m sure you’ll find an unforgettable experience here (you can celebrate your birthday on a cruise ship, yes!)
We only had a little time in Oman so it wasn’t enough, but I was amazed at how much fun it was to visit this beautiful country! I was thrilled to have the Sur Plaza Hotel as part of my trip to visit all over the world.
