Street 66 is the star of today’s Google Doodle

(CNN) – Google knows where to find its keys …

The latest Google Doodle of the search engine is being held on Highway 66.

The artwork is an animated video created with over 100 paintings and illustrations by Google art director Matthew Cruickshank while on the road.

Route 66 was built in 1926 and “made it cross -country for the first time,” Google said in a news release. The main road connecting Chicago with Santa Monica, California, abandoned families agreed to move out of the West during the Dust Bowl and became a motivator for John Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath . “
Today, the trail is a popular route for travelers hoping to experience the “last road trip” and explore American history. Route 66 was closed in 1985, but some sections were treated as state or national Scenic Byways, Google said.
Google’s video features visual effects from the highway, such as the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge in Missouri, the Cadillac Ranch in Texas, and the Golden Driller film in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“I started making an animated sketchbook of my journey full of searches and artistic meandering,” Cruickshank said in a Google news release.

Cruickshank said he hoped his doodle would show viewers “living in a quiet way can be very valuable every time!”
