The so-called stealth Omicron variant is now the most potent COVID-19 in the United States, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
BA.2 was found to account for 55 percent of home coronavirus cases for the week ending March 26.
The difference, seen in high numbers on the East Coast, was only responsible for 35 per cent of cases in the week ending March 19 and 22 per cent the week before, respectively. and CDC’s COVID Data Tracker.
BA. 2 now more than 70 percent of cases in the Northeast.
The Omicron subvariant is more contagious than the first but is not known to be more serious. BA.2 spreads about 1.5 times faster than the original Omicron strain, although it did not increase inflammation or reduce the risk of infection.
The disease has been reported at high rates in other countries, including Denmark, the United Kingdom and India.
