It can help the ‘black widow’ pulsar to detect gravity waves

Every 4 milliseconds, the dead star releases a powerful beam of radiation to our planet. Never mind – Earth be good. The dead star’s little friend was in trouble.

In a new study published March 11 in pre-print library arXiv (opens on new page)researchers describe this disastrous binary star system – a handful of celestial bodies known to be Black female pulsar death (opens on new page). Like the cannibal fountain where this type of system is named after him, the main member of the group seems to want to eat and destroy his little friend. (In spiders, there are more females than males.)
