Backpacking in Europe: What you should know

Where to live in Europe

Most tourists stay in hotels or guesthouses – it depends on the purpose of your trip, and your budget.

Hostels are great for making new friends from all over the world. They’re also funny, and you’ll probably remember the people you meet there for years to come. Another advantage of hostels is that since you share a room with 4-8 other people, they are usually more comfortable than hotels.

Have a lot of friends and just want to see the beautiful and inspiring sites of Europe, alone or with a friend/partner? Is a good night’s sleep important to your travel experience and worth spending the extra pennies on? If so, hotels are for you.

Traffic Hack:

For the best of both worlds, get a private room at an inn. You’ll enjoy the privacy (and some of the peace) of a hotel, where you can make new friends in communal areas without worrying about bumping into them in the back room. The price is more towards the end of the hostel.
